Ce que vous allez adorer dans le quartier
This is our second home which we use for holidays. We have recently renovated it completely so that it now comprises two beautiful en-suite bedrooms each with a queen-sized double bed. Each room is tastefully decorated. The first bedroom has views overlooking Courtmacsherry Bay through front and side windows. The second bedroom has French doors onto a south-facing balcony overlooking our private patio and garden to the rear. The downstairs is on two levels with the kitchen-dining area slightly higher than the lounge which has a comfortable sofa, chairs etc and a recesssed 32" TV with all BBC, ITV and RTE channels. Heating, when necessary, is provided by a wood-burning stove.
To the rear of the house and up a few step is a limestone-paved patio area with a glass-topped table and comfortable chairs where you can take breakfast out of doors or relax and read.
Our house, overlooking the RNLI station, is in the centre of the picturesque village of Courtmacsherry and within walking distance of a hotel, lovely tea-rooms and a few pub-restautants where you may also enjoy local musicians playing on several nights weekly. Further afield, the village of Timoleague is just 2.5 miles away and boasts two excellent restaurants as well as two pubs, one of which has local musicians playing traditional Irish music on certain nights.
Locally you can shop at the supermarket at Barryroe Creamery or at Timoleague.
The lively town of Clonakilty is 10 miles from our Courtmachserry house and it has many restaurants as well as excellent supermarkets and shopping.
Courtmacsherry is a perfect base to explore both Cork city (33 miles), Kinsale with its many shops and restaurants (21 miles) and the many beautiful sights and features of West Cork and its impressive coastline, beautiful beaches, mountains and the rugged terrain of the more westerly part of the county. West Cork is very rich in archaeological remains and there are many neolithic treasures including stone circles, standing stones and ringforts that are easily accessed and we can advise our guests about directions and distances should they be interested.
At the pier, just 100 m from our house, two modern boats take anglers to the deep-sea fishing grounds further out beyond the bay and the Old Head of Kinsale, where the wreck of the sunken Lusitania still lies down below.
Locally, sailing and kayaking is also available.
For golfers, there are three 18 hole courses within 20 miles of our house as well as a challenging 9 hole course no more than 9 miles away.
For bird watchers, the Courtmacsherry estuary (as well as the nearby Clonakilty estuary) are wintering grounds for many species of duck and wader and no winter passes without rarities being recorded.
Le mot de la fin
Because our Courtmacsherry house has several sets of steps connecting different levels both inside the house and to the patio and garden, it is not suitable for children or people with limited mobility.
