Le mot de la fin
Our home was originally an old schoolhouse, built in 1902. We renovated it and extended the building 4 years ago. The modern, architect designed extension houses our main, spacious living area and office on the ground floor and bathroom/wet room, master bedroom and ensuite on the 1st floor.
It consists of 3 large double bedrooms, the master bedroom being an ensuite. One bedroom has a child's cot and a double bed so is suitable for the smaller members of your family. The living area is bright and warm and opens out onto the secure gardens. The mature gardens have plenty of space for children and even has 2 perfectly placed trees for our hammock. There is a barbecue built into a hidden area at the back of the garden that is surrounded by the original stone walls (over 100 years old).
Our house is located in a small townland called Tivanagh and it served as the local school until the 1950's. The .75 acre site is private, yet not isolated as we have neighbours close by who can assist and advise you during your stay.
It is ideally located as a tourist base, both to the neighbouring towns of Boyle, Carrick-on-Shannon and Sligo, but also further afield to Galway (1.5 hrs drive) and Dublin (2 hrs drive).
We live approximately 3 miles from Boyle town. Boyle is a traditional Irish, rural town with a great community of locals. It's a historical town that has retained it's old world charms, while the town itself is very small it does have supermarkets, banks, cafes and plenty of bars! The main attraction of this area is it's proximity to amazing landscape and lakelands. There are stunning walks and facilities in Lough Key Forest Park, approx 5 minutes by car, 30 minutes by bike- we have 4 bikes for you to avail of, one of which has a back carrier for a toddler! This National Park attracts visitors from all over Ireland and has lots to do, even in rainy weather.
One of the most famous surf beaches in Ireland, Strandhill, is just 40 minutes drive. We tend to go there for Sunday walks on the beach, followed by lunch in one of the great cafes and restaurants in the town.
