Utrecht is sometimes called Holland’s cultural treasure trove. You can easily see why in the unique Utrecht Museum Quarter (old city center). The museums in this quarter boast stunningly beautiful items. And the city offers more! You can also enjoy a great range of festivals, events, theatres and music venues. Utrecht is also loaded with parks and pleasant walkways along its various canals. The canals in Utrecht are just as beautiful as those in Amsterdam, if not more so. They have very little traffic on them as opposed to Amsterdam and there are little stairways where you can go down to walk right along the canal, there are many cafes and restaurants alongside the canals, you have a varied choice and the atmosphere is amazing. From the nice terraces you can watch a boat row right past your table while you enjoy a delicious meal or a duck coming to ask for a tidbit .It’s an excellent, relaxing place to sit outside on a warm summer night. During good weather you can take a boat ride in the canals, make sure to take advance of this, as it’s far less expensive than in Venice, and probably more romantic, as there less tourist. The end of the Oudegracht (old canal) embankments has some workshops still in use. Utrecht has many markets that feature a wide range wares, sure to be of interest. There is a large general market, a market for agricultural produce, a large flower and plat market and a large fabric market all on walking distance from the apartment. Parks are located around and in the city center, like Wilhelmina Park, Griftpark and park Lepelenburg. Lepelenburg is 5 minute walk it’s still view of the Dom Tower, the lovely red and white bandstand, and the lounge chairs, it’s a wonderful spot for picnics and just hanging out, but don’t forget to visit the gardens of the city. There are also many cultural festivals for free. www.culturelezondagen.nl. I’m never bored
